QUESTIONERS SHALL NOT ASK WHY UNTIL THEY HAVE ASKED IF

ASKING QUESTIONS WITH FALSE PREMISES WASTES THE TIME OF QUORA USERS AND SPREADS MISINFORMATION. QUESTIONERS HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY OF DUE DILIGENCE TO ASCERTAIN THAT THE IDEA, FOR WHICH THEY WANT TO KNOW WHY, ACTUALLY IS A THING. IF THEY CANNOT VERIFY SUCH A THING IS TRUE, THEY SHOULD SUBMIT A QUESTION ASKING IF IT IS TRUE.

When a user comes across an idea that seems like it doesn’t make sense, before asking why this idea is true, the user should ask if it is true. This should initially be done by looking for a second independent source. We live in an era of fake news. The internet is primarily hogwash and balderdash with a spritzing of poppycock. When asking ‘if’ something is true, the questioner is advised to provide the source from which they came across the idea. This prevents the inevitable question from popping into the mind of every answerer – “where the hell did they get this crazy idea?”

For example, if a user reads an article on the internet that says British people all drink Lipton tea, the user should perform a Google search to look for a second and independent source making the same proposition. If that doesn’t dissuade the need to ask, the user should phrase the question in a proper manner, to first ask if before asking why:

“Is Lipton tea the most popular tea in Britain? If so, why?”

A question in that format will receive reasonable and helpful answers like: “No, it isn’t. The most popular brands are PG Tips and Twinings. No sane British person would ever willingly consume Lipton tea.” Whereas the question “why do all British people drink Lipton tea?” Would receive deserved responses such as “they don’t.”, “where do questions this stupid come from?”, and “did I just log into Yahoo Answers?”

Yahoo Answers?”

Don’t be a Yahoo Answers person.
